3 decades in space. From small-scale component manufacturer to pioneer

Imagine a magnetic component that never fails. Seems pretty unlikely, right? But that is what we guarantee you at Flux. We deliver flawless mission-critical magnetic components to the space industry.

The secret behind our success: 27 years of documented heritage in space. In this period, we have achieved all possible certifications testifying that we have the highest quality level imaginable for the production of components for the space industry.

Our first steps in space

The first steps were already taken in 1995 when we concluded an exclusive agreement with Alcatel Space. Our job was to manufacture magnetic components for booster rockets according to Alcatel’s design, procedures, and documentation. We didn’t have any design responsibility at that time.

In 2001, a decision was made to terminate Alcatel Space, and the exclusive agreement was terminated allowing us to start working on our concepts and cooperating with other space companies.

Certifications and training academy – taking Flux to the next level

We soon realized that we needed the right certifications to take Flux to the next level in the aerospace market.

So, we started working on our processes and soon received an ISO 9001 certification in 2010 and the American AS9100 certification targeting the Aerospace industry in 2011.

In addition to the certifications, we established a training academy for all operators in the wire winding workshop. Our operators are now trained according to the American IPC standard and the European ESCC standard. We also set up advanced testing facilities allowing us to perform rigorous testing of every single component in every single stage of production. A must in the space industry.

The certifications, training, and testing have taken Flux to the highest possible level for the production of components for the space industry. This means that our components meet the strictest requirements in terms of function, reliability, and outgassing requirements.

First-class design capabilities

Since our first steps in space, we have also leveraged our design capabilities to the highest level in the industry allowing us to support your design process.

At Flux we have a highly specialized team of engineers dedicated to listening to your needs and information on an advanced undefined level. We want to design unparalleled solutions that match your needs, not just manufacture a component

Once we have a good understanding of your needs we design, document, produce, and test the solution from the very beginning to the end of the production process. Today, we are the only manufacturer in the aerospace industry that offers this unique service at the ESA-qualified level.

Pioneering in space

The latest step is our outstanding collaboration with ESA, The European Space Agency.

Already in 2005, both ESA and Flux saw the need for electrification in space. So, we engaged in a collaboration to develop planar magnetics with high wattage suitable for electrical propulsion. This turned out to be a very wise investment.

Electrical propulsion of satellites is one of the technical revolutions taking place right now – instead of launching a satellite with thousands of pounds of fossil fuels satellites can now carry a few hundred pounds of electronic equipment that powers ion-drive engines. The benefits in terms of payload and launch costs are enormous.

Flux has thus set new ground-breaking standards for electrical propulsion and we are now regarded as one of the world’s leading pioneers in the development and production of bespoke power solutions.

One of only six ESA Technology Flow Qualified Manufacturers

After having cooperated closely with ESA for more years Flux received The ESA technology certification in 2019. We are one of only six manufacturers to have received the ESA Technology Flow Qualification (ESA TFQ certificate 364A), based on the development of ESA Detail Specification ESCC3201/013 “Custom inductors and transformers".

FLUX-ESA-EMBLEMER

As a customer, you benefit significantly from the ESA technology certification since it requires us to take full responsibility for our components and ensure that they are functioning 100%. This means that no testing and acceptance must be performed at your place. The ESA technology certification is thus your guarantee that our magnetic components never fail.
